Maldives ceremonies are fully exposed to equatorial sun — how do you handle SPF without causing flashback in photos?
This is a real technical problem we’ve solved specifically for Maldives-style destinations. SPF ingredients (especially titanium dioxide) reflect the photographer’s flash as white cast — you’ve seen ‘ghost face’ photos and that’s what causes them. Our workaround: apply physical sunblock under the primer as a prep layer, then airbrush foundation without SPF over it. The skin is protected, the photos are flash-safe, and the bride doesn’t burn.
An overwater villa ceremony has ocean breeze and salt air — does that affect the makeup and hair?
Ocean breeze moves hair more than any indoor setting, and salt air degrades product bonds faster than regular humidity. Hair is set with a salt-air protection layer, not just hairspray. Makeup gets an extra topcoat seal. For the ceremony itself, if there’s any possibility of sea spray reaching the bride’s face, we’ve successfully built tested looks that hold up through direct spray exposure — it’s the most extreme test we can run.
How small is a typical Maldives wedding and does that change anything for the team?
Most Maldives weddings are 20–50 guests — intimate by Indian standards, and typically 1–2 days rather than the 3–5 of a domestic Indian wedding. The team still travels as a unit. The resort provides the bride-room and setup space. The compact scale actually helps us — we can focus entirely on the bride and 1–2 close family members rather than coordinating across a sprawling guest roster.
